Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course a good student will understand the key challenges organisations face when managing the growing universe of digital information and the information compliance issues associated with information lifecycle management. Specifically students should be able to explain:

  • the challenges associated with managing complex information resources and propose appropriate solutions to these challenges
  • the key functionality and architectures of electronic document and records management systems and be able to recommend a suitable technology solution
  • the major legal and compliance matters relating to the management and control of digital information assets

This course provides an integrated view for managing the entire lifecycle of information, from its creation, organization, use and final archiving and/or destruction. Specific attention is paid to maximising the overall usefulness of information within an organisation and meeting increasingly complex information compliance requirements.

  2. Information lifecycle management
  3. Document and records management systems
  4. Information asset management:
  5. Information Governance and compliance
Teaching Methods

Weekly lectures (including discussion and learning activities)

Exercise comprising development of a business EIM solution.


Basic knowledge of organisational forms and business processes as well as foundations of information systems.
